YouTube Transcript to Claude is a Chrome extension that adds a button to YouTube watch pages which uploads the video's caption transcript into a Claude (claude.ai) project chosen by you. Last updated: September 2, 2026.

What we collect

Nothing. The extension has no servers, no analytics, and no tracking. The developer never receives any data from you.

What the extension stores

Four things, all in your browser's extension storage, none of which ever reaches the developer:

• Your chosen default Claude project (its id and name), so future uploads are one click.
• Your preferred caption language and translation, so the next video opens in it.
• A list of videos you have already added (the YouTube video id, the project id and name, and the date), so the button can show "In Claude" instead of uploading a duplicate. At most 500 entries are kept.
• A count of successful uploads, used once to ask for a review.

All of it can be cleared at any time from the extension settings or by uninstalling the extension.

What the extension transmits

Only when you click "Add to Claude" or use the popup's transcript preview:

• It fetches the video's caption track from youtube.com, inside your browser.
• It uploads the formatted transcript to claude.ai using your existing claude.ai login session, into the project you selected. Preview, copy, and download stay entirely on your device unless you choose to add the transcript to a project.

No third parties are involved. No data is sent anywhere except claude.ai, and only at your explicit request.

Permissions

• storage: save your default project, caption language, and the list of already added videos.
• activeTab: lets the popup detect that the current tab is a YouTube video so it can offer the transcript preview.
• https://claude.ai/*: list your Claude projects and upload the transcript document on your behalf.
• Content script on https://www.youtube.com/*: show the button and read the video's captions.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this same URL with a new date.
