YouTube Transcript to Claude. Last updated: September 5, 2026.

This policy describes the Chrome extension. It helps you read, save, organize, and export YouTube captions and send selected transcripts to your Claude projects.

Developer data collection

The extension has no analytics, advertising trackers, or developer-operated transcript server. It does not send your transcripts, notes, quotes, or browsing history to the developer. If you contact support, the developer receives the information you choose to include in that message.

The marketing website is separate from the extension and loads Datafast website analytics. Those analytics scripts are not included in the extension.

What the extension stores

On this device, in Chrome's extension local storage:

• Transcripts you save, including their video ID, title, channel, caption language, chapter and segment timing, and save dates.
• Notes, tags, favorites, and timestamped quotes you add to those transcripts.
• Upload history with video, organization, project, and document identifiers, project name, and upload date, used to open projects and replace earlier copies safely.
• A successful-upload count, used for a review invitation, plus local panel and theme preferences.

The default Claude project, caption preferences, YouTube visibility settings, and opt-in auto-save setting use Chrome's extension sync storage. Chrome may synchronize these preferences through your Chrome account if browser sync is enabled. The transcript library itself is not synchronized by this extension.

Auto-save is off by default. If you enable it, the extension keeps a transcript when its YouTube panel loads. Clicking Save, saving a quote, bulk capturing selected open videos, or uploading to a project also saves a local transcript. Re-saving a source preserves its annotations.

Network requests and clipboard

• YouTube requests retrieve metadata and captions when the transcript panel or popup loads, when you change the caption selection, or when you capture selected open videos. These requests go directly to YouTube over HTTPS. The watch-page fallback may use your existing YouTube session.
• Claude requests list available projects when the popup, Settings, or project picker needs them. Clicking an upload action sends the selected transcript document and its metadata to Claude over HTTPS using your existing claude.ai browser session. Library uploads can include your notes and saved quotes because they are part of the exported research document. The extension does not request or store your Claude password or API key.
• The Claude prompt builder formats the sources locally. Copy actions put text on your system clipboard. “Copy & open Claude” copies the text and opens Claude; you paste and review it before sending.
• File export downloads transcripts or backups to a location managed by your browser. Import reads the backup file you select and adds missing records to local storage.

YouTube and Claude process requests under their own policies. The extension does not sell user data, use it for advertising, or share it with unrelated services. Its use of data is limited to the visible capture, organization, export, and Claude features described here.

Access, retention, and deletion

You can read and export your library, edit notes and tags, remove quotes, and remove individual saved transcripts in the library. Undo briefly restores a transcript after removal. Removing a local transcript does not delete the copy in Claude; manage Claude project documents in Claude.

Saved research and upload history remain until you remove the data or uninstall the extension. Uninstalling removes the extension's local storage. Back up your library before uninstalling. Exported files and copies you send to Claude remain wherever you save them and must be removed there separately. The extension does not provide a separate encrypted vault for local data or downloaded backups.

Permissions

• storage: save research data and preferences.
• unlimitedStorage: allow the transcript library to grow beyond Chrome's standard local-storage quota, subject to available device storage.
• activeTab: identify the current YouTube video for the popup.
• https://claude.ai/*: list projects and upload selected documents using your existing session.
• Content script on https://www.youtube.com/*: display transcript tools and retrieve available captions. Open-video capture asks these existing scripts which videos are open; it does not request general browsing-history access.
